Today is so exciting for me for so many reasons! The most important reason of all is having all of you be an important part of my life AND to have you here to help celebrate my becoming a Bat Mitzvah.
Tonight, there are people here from 49 different zip codes from Canada and across the United States. Our friends and relatives traveled from:
La Jolla, California
Glenview & Chicago, Illinois
Bethesda & Silver Spring, Maryland
East Lansing, Michigan
St. Paul, Minnesota
St. Louis, Missouri
Charlotte, North Carolina
Shaker Heights, Ohio
and, of course, from right here in Connecticut!
I particularly want to thank my friends from Chicago and St. Louis for being here. They have been my friends since pre-school or Kindergarten, and I am so excited that they are here today.
So many people helped my parents put the events of this weekend together. I'd like to take just a moment to thank them.
First of all, a special thanks to my Grandma, my Zadie and Rena, for all of their loving support and especially for just being here tonight. They have fought lots of health problems recently but none of them ever gave up their determination to be here today. I love them very much.
Thanks also to my Aunt Carol and my Aunt Judy-Viv who took on the assignments my mom gave them willingly and happily.
Thanks to my mom's Bat Mitzvah support team: Robin Kurtz, Lori Lewis and Karen Alter-Reid who helped my mom so much.
Also a huge thank you to Jessica Sheinman whose beautiful calligraphy is on your table place cards.
The centerpieces, the mini-sukkah and the beautiful decorations were put together by a very talented Congregation Beth El member, Stefanie Baum. Thanks so much to her. My mom wants me to also tell you that Stefanie and her husband Win are beekeepers. In honor of my Bat Mitzvah and to help get the New Year off to a sweet start, they have produced special reserve honey which will be put out at the end of the evening for the grown-ups to take home.
Thanks to my sister, Jessica, who did whatever we asked her to do and provided her wisdom and advice, having gone through all this three years ago.
Also thanks to our friends Kiki, Claire and Efrat for helping build the animals in the centerpieces and in the little sukkah in the lobby.
Thanks to Maxine Clarke, the Bear-in-Chief at Build-A-Bear Workshop for subsidizing those animals which we are donating to Stamford Hospital's Pediatric Unit after this weekend is over.
Finally, I'd like to once again thank my mom, whose organizational skills and attention to detail can be seen on every part of this weekend. Thank you to my dad, who did all the typing and desktop publishing (and there was a lot of it). And again my sister, Jessica, who put up with all of this and who is my very best friend. I love you all very much.
